Homicide - James Lee Woodley (Roanoke Rapids Police Department)
March 24, 1998

STATUS: OPEN

On Tuesday, March 24th, 1998, James Lee Woodley was murdered by the use of a firearm at his residence located at 202 Monroe Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Homicide - Julius "Buck" Jones (Halifax County Sheriff's Office)
January 26, 1996

STATUS: OPEN
On Friday, January 26, 1996, Halifax County EMS was called to a body in the ditch on NC Highway 301 North outside of Enfield.  When EMS arrived they found the deceased body of Julius "Buck" Jones lying in a ditch 50 yards from his home.  He had over 60 stab wounds to his face, neck, and chest area.  A broken pair of scissors was found near the body covered in blood.  
 
Within days, Halifax County Sheriff's Office Investigators charged Josephine Walker who was the live-in girlfriend of Mr. Jones.  She was later tried on 4/19/2001 where a jury found her not guilty.

Homicide - Christopher Brown (Halifax County Sheriff's Office)
January 06, 1989

STATUS: OPEN
On Friday, January 6th, 1989, the body of Christopher Brown was located in the woods down a path in the Scotland Neck Area. Christopher Brown had been shot in the head and had a trash bag tied over his head. He had last been seen the night of Sunday, January 1st, 1989 by associates. The crime scene was never discovered.

Homicide - Margaret Moody (Halifax County Sheriff's Office)
April 21, 1988

STATUS: OPEN
On Thursday, April 21st, 1988, Margaret Moody was found by friends in her Carolina Rest Home Road Roanoke Rapids residence.  She had been shot multiple times.  Moody was still alive when friends found her but died prior to law enforcement's arrival. There were no signs of a break-in and Margaret Moody was alone in the residence.

Homicide - Bernice Smith (Halifax County Sheriff's Office)
June 06, 1983

STATUS: OPEN
On Sunday, June 5th, 1983, 23-year-old Bernice Smith left her parents’ house in Scotland Neck with the intent of going to a local store/hangout location. Bernice Smith was seen by multiple people walking through the town of Scotland Neck Sunday evening and early hours of Monday Morning. On Monday the 6th of June a farm worker traveling down Bakers School Road found Bernice lying in a ditch on the side of the road. She had been struck multiple times in the head with a blunt object.

Homicide - Susan Clary (Halifax County Sheriff's Office)
May 16, 1983

STATUS: OPEN

On Monday, May 16, 1983, Susan Clary was expected at work. After failing to report to her job as the clerk for the town of Weldon, a family member went to her residence to check on her. Susan was found in the bedroom of the home strangled. Mrs. Clary was married and pregnant at the time of this offense.
