Last Known Location: On Tuesday, February 23, 2010, the family of Jalesa Chantell Reynolds reported her missing to the Scotland Neck Police Department. Jalesa was last seen at the Scotland Neck Memorial Library on Monday, February 22, 2010. A computer sign-in log indicated that Jalesa signed in to use a computer at 9:16 a.m. Jalesa did not sign out of the computer. Friends of Jalesa recalled seeing her at the library. Jalesa’s friends left the library around 12 noon and Jalesa was still there.
The Scotland Neck Police Department, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, and countless other law enforcement agencies responded to locate Jalesa.
Jalesa’s family and friends stated that her routine was very predictable. Jalesa would attend a GED course, go to the library, and return home. Jalesa was described as very shy and rarely initiated conversation with others. Jalesa often used social media to communicate with friends and family and was known to only have used the Scotland Neck Library’s computers to log on to her favorite social media web sites.
Jalesa did not own a cell phone or computer and did not have a bank account. Jalesa rarely went anywhere other than the library, her home, or school. Jalesa’s family reported that she had never spent a night away from home. Jalesa was known to be of sound mind.
Jalesa’s internet usage and specific IP addresses led law enforcement to Cemetery Road outside of Scotland Neck. Multiple extensive ground searches were completed in the Cemetery Road area and scores of interviews were conducted.
Jalesa has not been found and her absence has left a hole in the Reynolds’ family.
